Secretary Health hold press conference in Larkana

The Secretary Health Department, Mr. Saeed Awan held a press conference at the Press Club, Larkana on the government's effort to deal with the polio virus in the province.

The incidence of polio cases in Sindh are of a major concern. As of 3 days ago, the number of children vaccinated will be approximately 9 million.

During his visit to Larkana, the Secretary also met with the M.S. DHO and inspected the hospital.

According to the Secretary, a monitoring system has been put in place and instant action is taken place as oper the incidents reported via it.

"We are controlling the polio virus using the vaccine provided to us", said the Secretary.

Furthermore, action has been taken against 24 doctors as a result of reports from the media and the inspections by the judges.

The Secretary said: "Stiff penalties are being imposed on senior doctors who have been found guilty of dereliction of duty".

There are 56 thousand polio workers in Sindh for whom 5 thousand security guards have been appointed.

The Secretary said that "People from tribal lands refuse polio drops and action is taken against them".

He added that "Investigations are underway in the case of rape and murder in the Sindh Healthcare Commission in Karachi. If the DNA results of Ismat Junejo prove the rape alegations, then action shall be taken against the doctor".

The current shortage of doctors is due to 1700 medicals officers going for post graduation studies. A new law is being made by the commission that would preclude a medical officer from going for PG studies with less than 3 years of service.

Burns wards are planned on a divisional basis.
